Chinese Vice-President Meets Ugandan Guests

The Chinese government attaches importance to bilateral relations with Uganda and hopes to further advance the ties in the future, said Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao in Beijing on April 19.

At a meeting with Janet K. Museveni, wife of Uganda President and head of a Ugandan women delegation, Hu said the Chinese government is grateful for Uganda's consistent support for the one- China policy and for backing China on the issue of human rights.

Holding high esteem for the friendly relations between China and Uganda, Hu said the two countries and two peoples share long- term cooperation and profound traditional friendship.

The past few years have witnessed new developments in bilateral relations, added Hu, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of China's Communist Party Central Committee.

Hu said he hoped that women's organizations in both countries will increase contacts and promote mutual understanding and cooperation so as to make progress in both countries' women's movement.

Museveni expressed her believe that contacts between the two countries' women and people will further promote relations between the two sides and to help women's causes in each country progress.
