Nationwide River Protection Campaign in China

A nation wide campaign to clean China's major rivers will be carried out to coincide with "Earth Day" from 22-30 of April.

The project to protect China's rivers was initiated early last year by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Ministry of Water Resources, National Greening Committee, State Forestry Administration and the China Youth Development Foundation. Young volunteers in 108 cities along ten major rivers including the Yellow River, the Yangtze River, the Songhuajiang River and the Huaihe River will participate in the project, according to the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. They will take floating litter out of rivers, place-sorted dustbins and monitor ecological conditions along the rivers. Managers from factories located along these rivers will also take part in the clean up campaign.
