US Company to Offer Internet Content for Mobile Phones in China

Ericsson SpA has formed a partnership with U.S.-based GWcom to provide financial information from the internet on mobile phone handsets in China, GWcom said.

"Leveraging GWcom's expertise...especially in financial information, will allow the faster rollout of services applications that are attractive to consumers in China," Michael Ricks, President of Ericsson (China) Co said..

"This will provide further motivation for mobile subscribers to take up with mobile Internet services," he added.

GWcom's wireless applications have already been successfully used with Ericsson's network infrastructure and WAP mobile phones in a commercial trial in Guangdong province.

The commercial trial in Guangdong has been offered to mobile phone users by Guangdong Mobile Communications Company, which has nearly 6 mln subscribers.

GWcom and Ericsson said they will use the partnership to continue to expand and develop new WAP mobile services in China.
