Southwest Grand Passageway Expected to Open Next Year

"Southwest Grand Passageway", a highway linking up Chongqing Municipality, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangdong and Guangxi provinces, is expected to be put into service next year.

The section from Qinzhou and Beihai in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is extending forward rapidly and the whole section will be built and completed at a high level before October 1 this year.

Vice-minister of Communications Li Juchang has been cited in a latest interview that the 1314-km passageway starts from Chongqing, via Zhunyi, Guiyang of Guizhou Province, Nanning, Qinzhou, Beihai of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to Zhanjiang and Guangdong Provinces. Intensive construction is being carried out at the sections for the present in Chongqing, Guizhou and Guangdong. According to plan, these are to be linked up next year.

"Southwest Grand Passageway" will help China carry out its west development strategy and further open up the areas stated to result in a great development of economy and an improved life by local people. Meanwhile, it will cut the time to 10 or so hours from former 30 for people to travel from Zhunyi to Beihai upon completion of this great passageway.
