Seminar on Soong Ching Ling Hosted in ShanghaiA seminar was held here on April 25 to mark the 19th anniversary of the death of Soong Ching Ling (1893- 1981), the late honorary Chinese president.Soong was the widow of famous Chinese revolutionary Dr. Sun Yat- sen, who led the overthrow of the last feudal dynasty, the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Lu Ping, vice-president of the China Welfare Institute founded by Soong in 1938 in Hong Kong, said at the seminar that Soong is highly respected by people around the world who love peace and justice. Appreciating Soong's achievements in the 20th century and learning from her spirit are important to China's anti-corruption campaign and the reunification of the motherland, Lu said. Israel Epstein, a naturalized Chinese citizen and a leading figure in the Chinese media, sent a written speech to the seminar, which was held by the China Welfare Institute, the Shanghai Society of Soong Ching Ling Studies, and the management committee of cultural relics of Sun and Soong in Shanghai. Participants at the seminar praised Soong as a life-long great soldier of patriotism, democracy, internationalism, and communism.
