State Councilor Stresses Social Welfare

Chinese State Councilor Ismail Amat has called for accelerated reforms in China's welfare system.

The state councilor made the call in his recent inspection to south China's Guangdong province, where he visited a number of welfare institutions including the homes for the elderly and children.

Reforms in China's welfare system is a must for the socialist market economy he said. It will also meet the needs of an increasing number of elderly people in China.

Governments at all levels should pay close attention to promoting welfare reforms, said the state councilor.

Ismail Amat also spoke highly of the progress that Guangdong has made so far in welfare reforms.
