Jiang Confers with S. African Top Lawmaker
Visiting Chinese President Jiang Zemin Wednesday expressed his hope that South Africa will score new achievement in the construction of the country. China, as a friend of South Africa, is pleased to see the progress that South Africa has made, Jiang said during a meeting with Frene Ginwala, speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa.

Jiang arrived in Cape Town, the legislature capital of South Africa, from Pretoria Wednesday afternoon to continue his state visit to the country.

The Chinese president cited Ginwala as an old friend of China who has made significant contributions to the advancement of Sino-South African relations.

Jiang said the exchanges between China's National People's Congress and South Africa's Parliament have constituted an important part of the bilateral relations because both of them are playing an important role in the political life of their respective countries.

He expressed his belief that Ginwala will continue to make efforts to consolidate the relations between the two countries. Extending his warm welcome to Jiang, Ginwala congratulated him on his success of the tour.
