Labor Day Holidays Spur Travel Boom

The weather will be warm and clear in Beijing during seven-day International Labor Day holiday that begins today, says Sun Jisong of the Beijing Meteorologic Observatory.

The temperature is forecast to reach a high of 28 to 30 degrees centigrade, and winds will be force 2 to 3.

"There will be no rain or dusty weather during the holiday in Beijing,'' he said.

Beijing Youth Daily reported yesterday that 1.78 million Beijingers plan to leave the capital for scenic spots.

Tickets for trains leaving Beijing have been sold out, even though the capital railway administrative departments added 134 departures.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China arranged 1,373 more flights to scenic spots during the holidays. That is more than 210,000 seats available for air travelers.

And accommodations in Beijing will be tight as a surge of domestic and overseas tourists will be in the capital.

A survey of 30 travel agencies in Beijing revealed that the number of tourists in the capital during the holidays will be double that of last year.

Except for a few four- and five-star hotels, many Beijing hotels are fully booked.

Buses for receiving tourists have also been rented out. The Beijing Youth Daily reported that China Travel Service's Holiday Travel Agency was forced to rent 20 buses from Tianjin.

With hotel accommodations tight, the agency could not find rooms for nearly 2,000 tourists from other provinces, the newspaper stated.

Beijing Contemporary New Concept Sales Corp, one of the biggest car rental companies, said that all its cars for the holidays were booked a week in advance.

During the holidays, department stores in Beijing will extend their business hours and hold various promotions to encourage holiday spending.
