China to Mark Centennial Discovery of Dunhuang Caves

A series of activities are being planned to commemorate the centennial of the discovery of the Dunhuang caves, in north-west China's Gansu Province.

Starting from June 22, exhibitions, symposiums and performances based on Dunhuang art will be staged both in Beijing and Dunhuang.

The Dunhuang Mogao Grottos, containing many thousands of ancient Buddhist carvings and frescoes, were discovered by a Taoist monk in the early 1900's.
