Putin: V-Day Unites and Reconciles SocietyRussian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday that the Victory Day over Nazi Germany "unites and reconciles everyone in Russia, all ideological and age differences are subdued by its magnitude.""We are seeking points of support for our society, but we do not have to seek them far," Putin said before a V-day concert at the State Kremlin Palace. "They are so close, they are in the lives of our fathers, the way they worked and lived, protected their homes and their Fatherland,"the Itar-Tass news agency quoted Putin as saying. Putin, who was sworn in the new president earlier Sunday, said moral standards of veterans of the Great Patriot War of 1941-1945 against Nazi Germany "should be our life standards." The veterans not only won a cruel war but also "rebuilt the country and enabled their children to become educated and compete with the world's leading states," Putin said. "We are regaining the genuine sense of Fatherland, the very essence of patriotism. Every time has its soldiers. All of them are soldiers of Fatherland, soldiers of Russia who are always ahead at a time trial," the new president said. Today's Russia "also has its soldiers who are worth the heroic deeds of their fathers and grandfathers," Putin said. "The life sets many difficult tasks for them, but they are solving the tasks with honor."
