Beijing Encourages Overseas Chinese Students to Come Back to Work
Beijing will give preferential treatment to overseas Chinese students who come back to work in the capital city, Vice-Mayor Liu Zhihua said on May 10.
He said that students with Chinese passports will enjoy the same treatment as Beijing residents in areas such as purchasing houses, and those who have obtained foreign nationalities may apply for multiple entry visas.
Overseas Chinese students may establish companies with technology as capital and those with Chinese passports may register their companies directly, with minimum registered capital, he said.
Those who are engaged in technology-related businesses or services are free from operational taxes, and the income they earned working in the Beijing Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park will be allowed to be remitted abroad after tax is paid. Preliminary statistics indicate that of nearly 70,000 Beijing students who have gone abroad to study, a third have come back. A recent survey also shows that of the over 300,000 overseas Chinese students, 80 percent hope to come back to China with more than 60 percent of them wishing to seek employment in Beijing.
