Every Country Is Equal: Li Ruihuan

Visiting Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People' s Political Consultative Conference Li Ruihuan said Wednesday that China takes equality as an important component of its foreign policy.

"China advocates that countries, no matter how big or small, strong or weak, poor or rich, are all equal," Li said in a meeting with Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Basdeo Panday.

Li owes the smooth development of the relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago to the fact that both countries treat each other equally.

Equality is a major subject in the present-day world, Li stressed. All nations, all ethnic groups, men and women, authorities and civilians and all people should be equal, he said. Equality is a target sought by mankind, a tendency of historical development and a symbol of social progress, he said.

Ancient Chinese thinkers proposed that all were equal. Sun Yat-sen, a forerunner in the Chinese revolution in modern times, proposed: "To unite with all nations that treat the Chinese equally."

The CPPCC National Committee Chairman pointed out that there still exist phenomena in the present-day world that the big bully the small, the strong bully the weak and the rich oppress the poor.

"China is willing to join hands with people of all countries to make an unremitting effort to build up a new world order of equality that is just and reasonable," Li concluded.
