Project Launched to Improve Ecology along Yellow River

A project has been launched in the Qumalai County in Northwest China's Qinghai Province, at the source of the Yellow River, costing 13 million yuan.

The project is expected to radically change ecological conditions of the source of the Yellow River, and put a stop to serious soil erosion in the area.

Spanning two years, the project will include adopting a logging ban to increase vegetation coverage areas and improve the grassland eco-system by controlling pests such as mice as well as planting grass on the more than 1,000 hectares of land.

Located at the Qingzang Plateau, the county is known for its adverse climate and fragile ecology. Almost half of the county is desert, with 35 percent of grassland exposed to mice and other pests.
