Deaf Children Regain Their Hearing

Treatment for hearing impaired children has enabled 4,000 deaf children in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province to hear again.

Song Wenlin, a ten-year-old girl who have been deaf for five years, is now able to sit in the classroom with other girls and boys of the same age, listening to the lessons. She is among the top in her class.

Another 570 children like Song have regained their hearing thanks to the special treatment.

It usually takes one and a half years for the treatment to see positive results, said experts.

Experts said around 1.8 million children below the age of seven are suffering from hearing problems. Over 50 percent lost part of their hearing due to taking the wrong medicine.
