Technological Innovation Energizes Chinese Enterprises

Chinese entrepreneurs attending the China Technological Innovation Achievements Fair agreed that creative ideas for product development have energized their companies and made them more competitive.

Tao Jianxing, president of the Chunlan Group, China's leading air-conditioner manufacturer, said that Chunlan lays emphasis on use of new technology.

Rising from a local State-owned enterprise in northern Jiangsu Province, Chunlan now owns 42 subsidiaries worldwide and has total assets of 12 billion yuan (US$ 1.4 billion).

Chunlan has formed an institute to solve technical problems and develop new products.

Yang Mianmian, executive chairwoman of the Haier Group, said innovations have made Haier a market leader.

Headquartered in Qingdao, Shandong Province, the giant household appliance manufacturer produces a range of products including refrigerators, air-conditioners, washing machines, freezers, telephones, color TVs and kitchen appliances. Haier's products have been exported to over 80 countries.

She said that Haier has cooperated with 25 colleges in China and 15 foreign institutes to update the technology.
