China's FDI Grows amidst Drop in Actual Utilization

Latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicate a hefty growth in the number of signed agreements of foreign direct investment (FDI) between January and February this year.

The first two months saw the number of signed agreements surging 10.99 percent year on year to 2,475, with utilization of foreign capital through signed agreements soaring 13.48 percent to US$6,256 million, the bureau said.

However, foreign capital actually utilized during the period dropped 12.40 percent on an annual basis, amounting to US$3,686 million.

At the same time, utilization of other foreign investment through signed agreements such as international lease and processing and assembly enjoyed a year-on-year 17.06 percent hike, hitting US$247 million.

Actual utilization of this capital suffered a decline as well, falling 6.35 percent to 177 million U.S. dollars.
