Sino-U.S. Cooperation on Green Textbook

A cooperative project between Chinese and U.S. environmentalists will soon bring a new textbook into Chinese classrooms, China Daily reported today.

Early last year, the Global Environmental Alliance China began translating into Chinese "E 2: Environment and Education", a textbook used in the United States.

Ten thousand copies of the translation will be distributed to pilot schools by the alliance, which was founded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and U.S. Global Communications for Conservation.

The textbooks promote innovative teaching methods and exchange between teachers and students.

They are being used in 55 primary and secondary schools in Beijing, reaching 7,000 students.

Schools in other cities will use the textbooks soon, said Laura Utley, chairman of the Global Communications for Conservation.
