Chinese Young Pioneers Holds Fourth National Congress

Chinese Young Pioneers Holds Fourth National Congress
A total of 600 Chinese Young Pioneers (CYP) deputies from all over the country gathered in Beijing to celebrate the International Children's Day and attend the Fourth National Congress of the CYP Thursday afternoon.

The Party and State Leaders Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jintao, Wei Jianxing and Li Lanqing met the deputies and warmly greeted all children from around the country.

Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao said that all Chinese youngsters will grow up together with the rapid development of their motherland, while a promising new century is approaching.

They are expected to be strict with themselves, to be good students at school, good children at home and good children in society. They must strive to become talented young adults, said Hu, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.

He said that the CYP is a cradle for nurturing China's children and provides a school where children can learn socialism and communism.

The young pioneers deputies also announced the "China's Youth Declaration in the 21st Century" at the conference.
