Innovation Stressed in Space Technology

China should actively promote technological innovation and development of its space technology if the country hopes to retain its lead in the area, a leading expert said.

At a recent symposium, Shen Rongjun, a pioneer in China's space survey and control network, said that after 40 years, the country has succeeded in building up a complete and unique space network.

Successes are due in no small part to the innovation of Chinese scientists who blazed a number of new trails, said Shen.

The space network has also encouraged the development of China's light science, telecommunications and information technology, bringing huge economic and social benefits to the country, added Shen.
