Rain-fed Flood in Fujian Kills 19

The recent rainstorms in coastal Fujian Province have caused severe flooding, with the death toll hitting 19 so far.

In the past two days, 35 counties in Fujian have had the daily rainfall exceeding 100 mm, with that of Longhai County topping 380 mm, according to the provincial government.

Nearly 1,000 ha of farmland and more than 200 ha of fish ponds in Xiamen have been flooded. The 19 deaths occurred in Quanzhou and Zhangzhou cities during the collapse of houses and a landslide.

The local governments have been fully mobilized and are busy tackling the floods.
