Henan Province Hit by Locusts

Central China's Henan Province, a major grain producer of China, is fighting a disastrous locust plague.

So far, locusts and their eggs have been found in more than 250, 000 ha of farmland in 34 counties.

Experts said that a large number of locusts swarmed over the province last summer and autumn, and the survivors have become a threat this year. The climate and environment of the province are ideal for locusts to thrive in.

The provincial government has decided to spray pesticide from the air over about 33,000 ha. Weather permitting, the work will be finished by the end of June.

Meanwhile, manual spreading of pesticide is under way.
