NPC Chairman Back Home after Six-Nation Tour

Li Peng, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, returned home Tuesday after an official good-will visit to Yugoslavia, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovak, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

Those who greeted Li and his party at the Great Hall of the People included Tian Jiyun, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee; Luo Gan, state councilor; and He Chunlin, secretary- general of the NPC Standing Committee.

Among those back with Li were Li's wife Zhu Lin and Jiang Chunyun, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

During the visit, Li held discussions with presidents, parliament leaders and prime ministers of the six countries, exchanging views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern and reaching wide-ranging consensus.

Li also met people from all walks of life of the six countries, and briefed them on China's independent foreign policy of peace, its reform, opening-up and modernization drive, the People's Congress system as well as its democratic and legal building-up.

Li's 16-day visit has enabled the six countries to have a better understanding of China and promoted mutual understanding, mutual trust, friendship and cooperation between China and the six countries.
