Defense Minister Holds Talks with Ghanaian Counterpart
Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian held talks Beijing Tuesday with Enoch Kwame Tweneboa Donkoh, defense minister of Ghana, one of the first African countries to forge diplomatic ties with China.
Chi, who is also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a State Councilor, said that the two peoples of China and Ghana enjoy deep friendship.
He noted that the friendly cooperation between the two sides in various fields has been steadily progressing since the diplomatic bond was formed.
He said that the two countries share the same or similar views on many major international issues.
Chi went on to say that developing friendly cooperation between the two countries is not only good for fundamental interests of the people of both countries, but also helps the peace, stability and development in the world.
The Chinese military forces attach importance to developing ties with the Ghanaian armed forces and are positive about the deepening of friendly cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries, Chi said.
He said that he believes Donkoh's current visit will push forward the friendly cooperative relations between the two armed forces.
He also briefed the guests on China's views on the current international situation, China's diplomatic and defense policies, and the build-up of the military.
Chi thanked Ghana for its support to China on the issues of Taiwan and human rights.
Donkoh said that Ghana values its ties with China, adding that the purpose of his current visit is to enhance the friendly cooperation between the two countries, especially their armed forces.
Donkoh thanked China for its help and support in various fields.
Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army Qian Shugen and Ghanaian Ambassador to China Oscar Ameyedowo were among those present at the talks.
Prior to the talks, Chi held a welcoming ceremony for Donkoh.
