Sino-Germany 2000 Environmental Cooperation Conference to Be Held in Beijing

An official from the State Environmental Protection Administration announced at a news briefing on June 27 that the Sino-Germany 2000 Environmental Cooperation Conference will be held in Beijing and the two parties will issue a joint statement after the meeting.

About 500 delegates, 150 of whom from Germany, are expected to attend the conference.

The official pointed out that this conference held at the turn of the century is a major event in the bilateral relationship between China and Germany. The two parties agree that the conference should become a new starting point for an all-round cooperation in the field of environment between China and Germany in the 21st century, thereby giving an impetus to the two countries' economic and technical cooperation, cultural exchange and trade development. The two countries will avail themselves of this opportunity to enter into high-level dialogs on environmental policy frame, strategic scheme, priority field and other aspects.
