Harassment Caller Arrested in Beijing

A farmer who repeatedly dialed Beijing's emergency telephone numbers to harass city police has been arrested.

The farmer, Liu Yandong, has dialed the two emergency phone numbers, 110 and 122, hundreds of times to abuse the police since mid-May.

Police arrested Liu after tracing calls he made on eight mobile phones earlier this month.

However Liu isn't the only caller using the emergency numbers to abuse police. On May 10 alone, switchboard operators at both lines received over 2,000 calls.

The lines were kept so busy that people with genuine emergencies could not get through.
