China Popularizing Knowledge of Internet

A long-term project aiming at popularizing Internet knowledge among Chinese people, especially youngsters, has been launched recently here in Beijing.

The project, named "1.2 billion people sharing the Internet", is jointly sponsored by the Photo News Department of Xinhua News Agency and the Langchao Group.

It involves opening Internet popularization schools in over 200 Chinese cities since July, teaching basic knowledge and technique free of charge, as well as hosting public forums of information technology and exhibitions of network equipment.

Statistics show that the current 10 million Internet users account for less than one percent of the country's total population, and they mainly live in several metropolises, such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Therefore, the project attempts to narrow the gap between Internet and the people, according to the sponsors of the project.
