New Engine for Train Developed in NE China

The Chinese experts and technicians in this coastal city in northeast China have recently developed a new variety of internal-combustion engine for train running in arteries.

The engine, named Dong Feng 4DAC and powered by alternating current, has been produced in the Rolling Stock Plant in Dalian, Liaoning province, on the advanced technology provided by the Rolling Stock Plant and the Siemens Corp. of Germany.

Comparing with traditional counterparts, the new engine can be used for both cargo and passenger trains. It can work more stably and provide greater tractive force.

It is said that Chinese manufacturers will continue to cooperate with Siemens Corp. on new engines, whose efficiency hit 6,000 horsepower, in the near future.
