China Opens Air Link With New Zealand

Direct air service between the People's Republic of China and New Zealand commenced as a Boing747-400 of Air China arrived at Auckland International Airport Thursday.

The flights of Air China between Beijing and Auckland via Shanghai and Sydney will operate twice a week, Thursday and Sunday.

A ceremony was held at the airport to mark the arrival of the first airliner from Beijing. Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand Chen Wenzhao and Executive President of New Zealand Tourism Bureau George Harton noted that the opening of the direct air link between China and New Zealand is an important event, which will greatly contribute to the rapidly increasing exchanges between the two countries and the two peoples in political, cultural, economic, tourist and other fields.

Air China is China's first scheduled airline to serve New Zealand and also the 32nd airline to operate from Auckland International Airport where New Zealand touches the world.
