Science Museum Stimulates Senses

Sony Explora Science, an experimental museum for the promotion of science and technology, is scheduled to open this autumn in Beijing, where the wonders of science will be revealed in an easy, interactive and fun way.

The science educational facility will be located at the Oriental Plaza on downtown Beijing's Wangfujing Street.

It will be a science museum for the 21st century where visitors can experience the wonder and fun of science through their five senses, museum sources said.

"We hope that the museum can offer a chance for the Chinese youth to experience the limitless magic and fun of science," said Tatsuaki Medai, general manager of Beijing Suoming Science Park Co Ltd, operator of the museum.

Visitors can learn about some basic science knowledge such as illusions, refraction and reflections, lights and colours.

They will also see a variety of future possibilities realized by science and digital technology under the theme of "Harmony of Science and Technology."

The museum is expected to host 1,000 visitors per day but the price of the tickets has not been established yet.

The museum will open with the co-operation of the San Francisco-based Exploratorium, a museum of science, art and human perception.

The science museum is now holding a contest in China to decide its Chinese name.
