70 Percent of Chinese Drug Addicts Take in Heroin

according to statistics of the Ministry of Public Security, the registered drug addicts in 1999 are 681,000 persons and 70 percent of them took in heroin.

Statistics from the department concerned of the United States shows that each year about 100,000 persons die of drug abuse, 10,000,000 persons lose ability of working because of taking drug, and the transaction volume exceeds US$500 billion accounting eight percent of the volume of world trade.

So far, China has changed from a victim of drug transit to a victim of drug transit and consuming at the same time.

Officials from the Ministry of Public Security says that drug is a global question and anti-drug needs international cooperation. China has consistently advocated that it's the responsibility of the countries of production, consumption and transition to fight against drug crime and it requires joint efforts of countries, regions and different levels of the international society.
