Cambodian PM Praises China's Achievements in Reform, Opening Up

The Cambodian government and people feel happy about the great achievements China has made in its reform and opening up and modernization program, said Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Meeting outgoing Chinese Ambassador Yan Ting'ai Monday, Hun Sen said that "a prosperous and powerful China benefits peace and development in both Asia and world."

He spoke highly of China's policy of not devaluing Renminbi, the Chinese currency, during the Asian financial crisis in the 1998-1999 period. "This is a responsible attitude and has made great contributions to the southeast Asian countries to tide over the crisis," he added.

The traditional and long-standing friendship between Cambodia and China has been further enhanced in the new period, he said. The friendship not only meets the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also benefits the unity and cooperation among the developing countries, Hun Sen said.

On behalf of the Cambodian government and people, the prime minister expressed his heart-felt thanks to the Chinese government and people for sincere support and assistance to Cambodia's realization of peace and reconstruction.
