Putin on Russia's Security Cooperation With China

Visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that his country's cooperation with China on international security can play a decisive role in world peace and stability.

Putin told reporters at a press conference after talks with Chinese President Jiang Zemin this morning that the two countries think alike on strengthening global balance, and this stance is very important in today's world. He said Russia and China will intensify the cooperation in this regard.

The two giant neighbors will expand their political and economic cooperation, he said, adding that the package of agreements signed today demonstrates that the two countries are not only willing to, but also have begun to boost the cooperation process.

The agreements cover the fields of power, energy, machinery and aviation and aerospace.

Putin said he completely agreed to President Jiang's comment during the morning talks that "neighbors are dearer than distant relatives."

He said he is deeply convinced that the cooperation between the two countries will be a success, because it is the common wish of both the Russian and the Chinese people.
