Chuan: Thailand Firmly Sticks to "One China" Principle

Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai on Wednesday reiterated that Thailand will firmly stick to the "One China" Principle.

He made this remarks during the meeting with visiting Chinese Vice-president Hu Jintao in the government house.

Hu pointed out that the Chinese government never changed its basic policy of " Peaceful Unification and One Country, Two Systems" on Taiwan issue.

"We hope that the Thai government will continue sticking to the 'One China' Principle, " Hu said.

Chuan responded that the Thai government will always stick to the "One China" Principle, and promised that Thailand will never try to establish any official ties with Taiwan.

Earlier Wednesday, Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, former Thai prime minister and leader of the opposition New Aspiration Party, and Banharn Slipa-archa, another former premier and leader of the opposition Chart Thai Party, also expressed their firm support to the "One China" Principle during their separate meetings with the Chinese Vice-president.

Both of the two former premiers said that their parties will stick to the "One China" Principle and hope the unification of China will be realized soon.
