Hu Hails Successful Sino-Thai Trade Cooperation

Trade cooperation between China and Thailand is developing smoothly and successfully, visiting Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao said in Bangkok Thursday.

"Based on a solid foundation and meeting each other's need very well, the bilateral trade cooperation has a very broad prospect," Hu said at a banquet in his honor sponsored by the Thai business circle and local Chinese community.

He suggested that the two nations should explore new fields of trade cooperation, and keep promoting the cooperation to a higher level.

"The ever-growing trade cooperation has also laid a solid foundation for closer Sino-Thai political relationship," Hu pointed out.

The bilateral trade volume between the two countries reached 4.2 billion U.S. dollars last year, 200 times the figure of 21 million dollars in 1975, when the two countries established diplomatic relations.

According to the Chinese vice-president, the mutual investment also keeps expanding. The number of projects of Thai investment in China has reached nearly 2,800, with the contract value totaling 4.8 billion dollars, while Chinese firms have made considerable progresses in investing, technology cooperation or project-contracting in Thailand.
