Volleyball Grand Prix Set for Yuxi

Three world women's volleyball powerhouses will gather in the Chinese southern city of Yuxi next month for the 2000 World Women's Volleyball Grand Prix, the last major international tournament before the Olympics.

Cuba, Japan and the United States will attend the tournament. Together with host China, the four will compete for a title prize of US$100,000 August 18-20.

Other teams participating in this year's grand prix competitions are Russia, Brazil, South Korea and Italy. Each is allowed to choose three of the total seven locations.

The other two stops China will play is Macao lag August 4-6 and Malaysia 11-13.

All eight teams will then move to the Philippines for the Grand Prix final with the winners pocketing US$400,000.

This is the second time Yuxi, in Yunnan Province, has hosted the event.
