China Places Third in Four-nation Women's Soccer Tournament

Norway Defeats China in Women Soccer Match
China ranks the third in four-nation women's soccer tournament after a 0-1 lose to Norway Saturday. While the US beat Germany 1-0, thus win the championship of the tournament.

Julie Foudy scored the lone goal to pace the United States to a 1-0 victory over Germany, thus winning the title of a four-nation women's soccer tournament in Gottingen, Germany on Saturday.

Foudy's left-footed goal in the 57th minute awarded the US women with two wins and a tie in the DFB Jubilaum Tournament, marking German soccer's 100th anniversary.

Norway finished second by defeating China 1-0 and the winless Germany was last in the tournament which features the best women's sides of the world.

The lone goal came when Foudy received a pass from Tiffeny Millbrett and charged in from the left to beat goalie Silke Rottenberg, a split second before Foudy was upended by a German defender.

The United States squandered several chances before the break with the best chance from Milbrett whose long roller ricocheted off the left post.

Germany suffered the most at the tournament celebrating its soccer heritage, with its defense riddled for seven goals in losses against China and Norway.

China came into the final round of the tournament with a 1-0-1 record, leading the Americans on a goal difference of one. The two World Cup finalists tied 1-1 on Wednesday.

Norway finished with a record of 2-1, China was 1-1-1 and Germany 0-3.
