China Relocates Two Pro-historic Pottery Kilns
Two pottery kilns built during the Neolithic era were relocated recently from their original site to a spot about 100 km away for better protection, local cultural relics official said.
The kilns were in Huanqu county of north China's Shanxi province and were part of a pro-historic ruins which will be submerged by the on-going Xiaolangdi reservoir on the middle reach of the Yellow River, the second longest in China.
The two kilns, unearthed in 1997, are the best preserved ones ever found in China, experts said.
They are priceless for their uniqueness in China's archaeological findings and research on the Neolithic era, archaeologists said.
For permanent preservation, the Shanxi Archaeological Research Institute decided to move them to a new site.
The relocation work, supported by the prestigious Fudan University in Shanghai, required more than one year and some 300, 000 yuan (36,000 US dollars), according to experts with the institute.
