Chinese, Russian Presidents Exchange Views Over Phone

Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Russian President Vladimir Putin Wednesday evening recapped Putin's recent visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and other issues.

In their phone conversation initiated by Putin, the two heads of state exchanged views on furthering the Sino-Russian relations and other global and regional issues of common concern.

Jiang lauded Putin's successful visit to the DPRK, the first official visit made by the Russian president.

Putin thanked Jiang for the hospitality extended during his China trip. Jiang described Putin's visit as "successful" and believed it would push forward the all-round development of the Sino-Russian strategic partnership of cooperation in the new century.

Both said they hoped to meet again at the United Nations millennium summit in New York and at the informal summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in Brunei later this year.
