Shaanxi Develops Mountain Agriculture

A comprehensive program to develop agriculture in the Qinling mountain areas of northwest China's Shaanxi Province was launched on July 26.

Hundreds of thousands of poverty-stricken people in the southern part of the province are expected to benefit from the program funded by the World Food Program (WFP) and the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD).

The program involves five counties and 96 townships with a population of 930,000. The five-year program with an investment of 458 million yuan (US$ 55 millions) covers the construction of agricultural infrastructure, promotion of grain production technology, building of primary schools, updating village medical equipment and training courses for agricultural technology.
