Home to Folk Paper-Cutting Arts Named in China

Jieshou City in east China's Anhui Province was recently named "Home to Folk Paper-Cutting Arts of China" by the Ministry of Culture.

The paper-cutting art of Jieshou, in northwest Anhui, dates back to as early as the mid-Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

In the city, paper-cutting societies are established at both municipal and township levels, with a total member of more than 500. Some 16 are state-class members and 22 provincial-class members.

Jieshou's paper-cutting works make frequent appearances at the exhibitions held both in and outside Anhui Province, and have been highly reputed nationwide.

The city's paper-cutting works have also been exported to Japan, the United States, Austria, Germany, Italy and many other countries and regions.
