More than 200 children and youth from all over China including Hong Kong and Macao attended the opening ceremony of the 10th National Scientific Innovation Contest Frioday in Hefei.

Among the entries to the contest are more than 290 inventions, 172 articles, 422 innovative plans and 1,787 "fantasy paintings" about the world's future.

The five-day contest is held in the Anhui Provincial Solidum in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui province. It has attracted some 16 million young people across China. The 200-plus finalists will display their innovative designs, answer questions by the appraisal committee, attend scientific forums and lectures, pass skill tests and give briefings about prize winning designs.

The winners will be announced at a prize award ceremony on August 8.

The youngest child attending the contest is five while the eldest is 21.
