Overseas-Funded Enterprises Pour Into Guangdong

The number of registered overseas-funded enterprises has been rising remarkably in south China's Guangdong Province.

According to the Guangdong Provincial Administration of Industry and Commerce, in the first half of the year 1,771 overseas-funded enterprises were registered in the province, and their total registered capital reached 2.34 billion US dollars, increases of 32.1 and 13.9 percent over the same period of last year, respectively.

Since 1998, the state and the Guangdong provincial government have formulated a series of policies to encourage consumption and investment from both at home and abroad, and to stimulate economic growth.

In the first six months of this year, Guangdong's GDP reached 406.276 billion yuan (about 50 billion U.S. dollars)-worth, an increase of 10.6 percent over the same period of last year.

Experts said the growth of registered overseas-funded enterprises shows overseas businessmen's confidence in Guangdong's economy.

Of the overseas-funded enterprises, 63.8 percent are solely-funded overseas enterprises, a rise of 48.3 percent over last year.
