100 Films to be Shown at Changchun Film Festival

A total of 91 films have so far been confirmed to participate in the Fifth China Changchun Film Festival scheduled to open from August 23 to 26.

According to Hu Donghui, vice-chairman of the festival's organizing committee, of the 91 films, 70 are in the Chinese language, including 45 from China's mainland, 12 from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and 13 from China's Taiwan province.

The remaining 21 are from the United States, France, Spain and Japan and other foreign countries, Hu said.

All the films were produced since the year 1998, some of which have won wide international attention and some have become great success in ticket-booking, Hu said.

Since it is still 10 days ahead of the festival, Hu predicted that the number of participating films will exceed 100, a record number in the festival's history.

First held in 1992 and once every two years since then, the festival, together with the Shanghai Film Festival, has been considered one of the two major film festivals in China.
