Strict Rule for Justice Officials Established

Leaders will have to be responsible for their subordinates who break the law or violate disciplinary regulations in south China's Guangdong Provincial Justice Department, according to a strict internal rule established recently.

Eighteen officials in the department have signed agreements in this regard. According to the agreements, in a given year an official will have no chance of promotion if any one of the subordinates is found guilty of violating disciplinary regulations or the criminal law; should there be two cases of violations, the official will have to take the blame and ask to resign, Wednesday's "Legal Daily" reported.

The rule was established as the provincial department has been stepping up its efforts to combat corruption. In recent years a number of abuses have been uncovered in the department, the report said.
