Dalai Lama Inappropriate to Attend Peace Summit: Chinese Religious Leaders

The Dalai Lama is a turmoil-maker instead of peace-maker and is thus absolutely inappropriate to be invited or allowed to attend the upcoming Millenium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders to be held at the United Nations Headquarters, a Chinese religious delegation said Wednesday in Los Angels.

"The issue of Dalai Lama is closely related to the emotional feeling of the Chinese people and the sovereignty of the state, and the Chinese people have, as always, been resolute in this issue," said Jamyang Losang Jigme Tubdain Qoigyi Nyima, top Living Buddha of Tibetan Buddhism and member of the delegation, which will attend the peace summit.

"Some people want to make it an issue and trying to split Tibet from China and interfere in China's internal affairs," he said.

Bishop Michael Fu Tieshan, head of the delegation, said that the peace summit should be for peace-makers, instead of for trouble- or turmoil-makers.

"The Dalai Lama has been engaged in splittist activities and creating turmoil in Tibet, and his presence at the meeting is inconsistent with the theme of the summit," he said.
