Chinese Photograph Exhibition Opens in US

A Chinese photograph exhibition opened in Washington Saturday at the Kennedy Center, creating an atmosphere of Chinese culture in one of the most prestigious arts centers in the United States.

The show, which will be on until September 17, is one of the two exhibitions of the Chinese culture exchange tour in the United States, with nearly 100 photographic works on display.

Some of the pictures by Chinese professional and amateur photographers, such as "Karst landscape" and "The water-splashing festival of the Dai people," depict the nature in its many shapes and hues as well as the lifestyles and customs of the Chinese people.

Some reflect the spirit of the Chinese people dedicated to the modernization drive while others, for instance, "Street scene in Beijing," record great changes that have taken place in China.

Appreciating the pictures, American journalist Bill Jones said that such exhibition is important for helping Americans to understand China.

"Many Americans have never been abroad," said Jones. "And they got to know China mainly from America's strong media, whose reporting could be partial. I think the exhibition can tell them something true about China."

Jones said that he believed some Americans might think of visiting China after seeing the photographic works.

The culture tour, which started on August 24 with a traditional Chinese concert in UN Assembly Hall, will conclude on September 17 with a folk dance performance in Los Angeles.
