Coastal Province Drafts Regulations to Curb Spread of AIDS
The coastal province of Zhejiang in east China is drafting regulations to contain the spread of AIDS.
Similar regulations were already issued in Shanghai and Chongqing in an attempt to curb the spread of the deadly disease.
According to the regulations, education and precautions against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) will be included in the curriculum of high schools and universities.
All hotels, hairdressers and amusement parlors are obliged to educate their employees on knowledge of AIDs.
Since 1985, Zhejiang has reported 149 cases of AIDs infection. Of those infected, 18 have died.
The province has also reported a rapid rise in STDs over the past two years.
