China's Support for Linux not Aimed at Any Particular Product
Chinese Software Industry Association President Yang Tianxing said that China is trying to popularize Linux software not because of any company or any product, but because Linux is an open source software. China can control its core technology which will help it develop Chinese application software. China will support and try to popularize any other company whose core technology is made public.
In the past, China's development of software applications has been very "passive" because it did not control software's core technology. To change this, seven companies: China Computer Software and Technology Service Headquarters, Red Flag Linux Ltd., Turbolinux, Xteam, Shenzhen BluePoint Linux, Longshine Information Technology Co Ltd and Beijing Qianxitong Technology Ltd., announced the start of the Linux technology support center project April 25 in Beijing. The project would provide support for Linux's open source platform to the domestic software industry.
In the following four months, Shanghai Pudong Software Park, Beijing Net Tiger, Siling Network System Ltd and Jiqun Network Ltd. joined the Linux technology support center project.
To date, this project is helping develop Chinese software, especially Chinese software for e-commerce and e-commerce applications capabilities testing. It also provides companies and organizations with tech support and Linux training. It has also introduced a Chinese server OS version based on the Linux platform.
