Int'l Cliff Painting Symposium Opens

The 2nd Ningxia International Cliff Painting Symposium opened in Yinchuan, capital city of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

More than 130 sculptors and experts from 13 countries attended the opening ceremony.

Cliff paining, as one of the most popular form of arts in the world, has been discovered in over 120 countries. China has found thousands of cliff paintings in over 20 provinces.

Helan Mountain alone, once a nomadic area, is the home to thousands of cliff paintings carved by nomads in northern China some 2,000 years ago. They are scattered over an area stretching several hundred of kilometers.

During the five-day symposium, participants will put emphasis on cliff painting and modern art, protection of cliff paintings and the discovery of cliff paintings at Helan Mountain. They agreed to build a museum to display cliff paintings from various parts of the world at Helan Mountain.
