Chinese State Councilor Meets Trinidad and Tobago Visitor

Chinese State Councilor Luo Gan met Tuesday with Minister of National Security of Trinidad and Tobago Joseph Theodore.

Theodore's visit to China is the first high-level visit by a military official of Trinidad and Tobago to China since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1974.

Luo said both China and Trinidad and Tobago are developing countries sharing common views on many international affairs, and they are mutually reliable friends.

China emphasizes its friendship with Trinidad and Tobago and is of the view that under the present complicated world situation, it is the common aspiration of both to reinforce cooperation, he said.

Since 1974 when diplomatic ties were forged, bilateral relations have made steady progress, with fruitful cooperation carried out in various fields and close coordination conducted in world affairs, Luo said, adding China is willing to work together with Trinidad and Tobago for an overall and healthy relations in the new century.

Theodore said China's successful experience in achieving economic development and social progress is well worth drawing on by Trinidad and Tobago, and he himself is willing to exert more efforts to push forward relations between the two countries and the two peoples.
